State police believe drugs a factor in fatal I-465 crash

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — One man is dead after a single-vehicle crash on the city’s west side.

Indiana State Police say the crash happened around 4:15 a.m. Saturday.

A vehicle was traveling southbound on I-465 near Washington Street when it crashed into a ditch on the ramp.

State police say two men were in the vehicle at the time of the crash and the passenger was ejected from the car.

Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital where the passenger later died.

Police have not identified the victims of the crash, but believe drugs may be a factor.

The driver is now facing preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and causing death, along with possession of a syringe.

An investigation is ongoing.
