1 dead in single vehicle crash on I-65 in Boone County
BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A fatal crash involving a single vehicle closed all southbound lanes of Interstate 65 in Boone County on Thursday evening, according to Indiana State Police.
The crash happened around mile marker 149, about four miles north of the Thorntown exit. The road was closed from mile marker 146 to mile marker 158.
According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the car was traveling northbound around 9:15 p.m. when it left the road, struck a guardrail and concrete bridge support in the median, then caught fire and came to rest in the southbound center lane.
BCSO said that another motorists tried to get the trapped driver out but they were unsuccessful.
The Boone County Coroner later identified through dental work that the victim was 40-year-old Jeffrey Warren Hamilton of Greenwood.
Police believe that alcohol might have a been a factor in the crash.
