1 detained after fatal shooting on Indy’s west side
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — This story has been updated to include the name of the deceased.
Indianapolis police say one person is being held for questioning after a fatal Thursday morning shooting on the city’s west side.
At 5:15 a.m. Thursday, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers found a man shot outside at the Maple Creek Village Apartments at West Michigan Street and Holt Road.
IMPD initially said the man was in critical condition, but he died a short time later. The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 24-year-old Steven Dortch.
The individual detained at the scene is “a person of interest,” according to IMPD Public Information Officer Tommy Thompson.
Maple Creek Village Apartments is directly across the street from Michigan Fish and Chicken, where police found a man critically injured after a shooting on Wednesday afternoon. IMPD said Thursday it doesn’t have any information that would connect the two incidents.
Anyone with information about this incident should call Detective Michal Dinnsen at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or e-mail the detective at Michal.Dinnsen@indy.gov.
