1 hurt, one killed in shootings after violent weekend in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – One person died and other people were hurt, including a 13-year-old girl, following the end of what’s been a violent weekend in the city.

The latest shooting happened early Monday morning at an apartment complex on Centurion Parkway, which is near 79th Street and Harcourt Road. A security guard at the complex says two people were shot – a man and a 13-year-old girl.

The guard say the girl was in the bathroom when she was grazed by a bullet and that the man was shot in the groin. The guard says he thinks someone fired 5-7 shots outside, and those shots went into the apartment. A white, 4-door SUV is said to have been seen driving away from the scene in a hurry. The condition of both victims wasn’t immediately clear Monday morning.

Sunday, another shooting happened inside a hotel room in the 3500 block of Shadeland Avenue. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials say one person was shot around 11:13 p.m. He was taken to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital, where he later died. Police said its the same location as another shooting Friday morning where a man was shot and killed outside the Rodeway Inn.

Officials are investigating three other shootings from over the weekend. Earlier Sunday, 48-year-old Gerald Darden was shot and killed in the 1300 block of West 27th Street. Police say a man died Saturday after he was shot during an apparent robbery in the 1700 block of North Ritter Avenue. Earlier that day, a woman was hurt when she was struck by a stray bullet at the Bayhead Village apartments, between 38th and 34th streets.
