ARCADIA, Ind. (WISH) – A man died in an accident on a Hamilton County farm, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

Just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to a report of a fatal accident in a field in the area of 274th Street and Ott Road. That’s about half-mile north of Arcadia.

After arriving on the scene, deputies learned that a farmer was working in his soybean field and slowed down to turn a corner as 47-year-old Anthony Etchison attempted to climb aboard the combine, according to the sheriff’s office.

However, Etchison fell and was run over by the farming equipment.

Etchison died on the scene.

A prayer vigil for Etchison is set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the football field at Hamilton Heights High School.

The Noblesville High School website says Etchison was a four-year letter winner in basketball and was a member of the 1989, 1990, and 1991 sectional championship teams. He was named All-County four times and was the Hamilton County Player of the Year two times. The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame named him to the 2016 Silver Anniversary Team, and he is a member of the Hamilton County Basketball Hall of Fame.
