1 safely escapes house fire on near northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Fire Department said fire heavily damaged a home on the near north side on Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out in the 2400 block of Guilford Avenue just after 9:30 a.m. Multiple crews were called to put out the fire.

According to IFD, one person was inside the home when the fire started. They were able to make it out safely.

The resident told IFD that he was sleeping downstairs when he heard a loud pop. Minutes later the curtains in the front window were on fire.

IFD has the fire under control in about an hour.

The home had extensive damage to the structure. It was estimated the damage was $100,000. The cause of the fire was under investigation on Tuesday afternoon.

IFD said high heat and humidity made it difficult for those fighting the fire. Additional units were called in to help crews cool off.
