10-year-old boy shot in leg on north side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A child has been taken to the hospital after being shot on the city’s north side.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the 2400 block of Arbor Lake Lane around 4 p.m. Thursday.

Officers are investigating but say the shooting may have been accidental.

The 10-year-old was shot in the leg and is currently stable at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health.

Officers said the weapon, an AR-15, belonged to the boy’s uncle. The uncle reportedly went to a shooting range recently and was going to clean it today. Officers have not stated if the man or the child was handling the weapon.
