16-year-old arrested in connection to Muncie murder

MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) – A 16-year-old has been arrested for the murder of a Muncie teen on July 2, according to the Muncie Police Department.

Muncie police executed a search warrant at a home in the 1900 block of East Cedar Street around 6 p.m. Thursday. An unnamed 16-year-old male was taken into custody and will be charged with the murder of Christian Orebaugh.

According to Twitter, Orebaugh and his girlfriend were expecting a child.

“I cannot believe the father of my unborn child is gone. Please pray for his family and I. I need it more than ever,” a tweet appearing to be from Orebaugh’s girlfriend read.

Officers say 18-year-old Christian Orebaugh died from a single gunshot wound in the torso after people broke into his home, just before 11 p.m. last Thursday. Witnesses said they saw three men running from the house after the shot was fired.

As for the 16-year-old arrested, police say because the suspect is under 18, they will not release his name or mug shot until prosecutors file formal charges.

Authorities also say they don’t know the motive, but they say there were signs of drug dealing at the home.
