18-year-old driver dies after shooting inside vehicle in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) — Lawrence police said the victim in a shooting Wednesday night has died. 

An 18-year-old male driver of a car was taken to Eskenazi Hospital Wednesday night following a shooting at 56th Street and Boy Scout Road, the Lawrence Police Department said.

The victim of the shooting, since identified as Domanic Jones, died hours later at the hospital. 

Authorities are still working to determine what led to the shooting.

The driver of a car was critically injured in a shooting in Lawrence Wednesday night, Lawrence Police Department said. 

The shooting was first reported around 6:15 p.m. after witnesses said they heard shots being fired inside a car that was driving southbound on Boy Scout Road, said Deputy Chief Gary Woodruff with the Lawrence Police Department. 

The vehicle crashed into a traffic pole after it made a turn on eastbound 56th Street at Boy Scout Road. 

Woodruff tells News 8 three other people exited the vehicle and ran south on Boy Scout Road after the shooting.

The driver suffered at least one gunshot wound and was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. 

Authorities have apprehended the three people who were seen getting out of the car. They were being questioned by police. 

Police said they did not immediately know if the shooting happened in the car or elsewhere.

No other details have been released at this time.
