2 women facing drug charges after traffic stop

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Two women are facing numerous drug charges after a traffic stop on Smith Valley Road and Hiatt Avenue Thursday.

According to a release, police were called to Russell Lane after reports of a suspicious person in the backyard of a home. After investigation, police said as the officers were walking back to their car, they saw a truck pull down Russell Lane with its headlights off, then back up several times in the same area police were looking for the suspicious person.

Police said they followed the truck as it traveled on Morgantown Road north of Old Smith Valley. The truck was then pulled over after it traveled left of the center line on Smith Valley Road and Hiatt Avenue.

Police said the driver of the truck was Courtney Campbell, and the passenger was Britney Johnson.

Police said after Campbell was asked where she was coming from, she said she was meeting a friend on Russell Lane, but he was not standing out by the road so she left. Both females said they left to go to the nearest gas station to get gas.

The officer then asked to search the truck and was given permission.

Police said they found:

  • Large purple color metal grinder
  • Multi-colored glass smoking device
  • Marijuana
  • Bag of capped needles
  • Bag of capped unused needles
  • Methamphetamine
  • Meth pipe

Campbell and Johnson were and arrested and then transported to the Johnson County Jail.

Campbell is being preliminary charged with:

  • Possession of marijuana
  • Possession of paraphernalia

Johnson is being preliminary charged with:

  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Possession of paraphernalia
  • Possession of hypodermic needle
