2-year-old girl found wandering Center Grove neighborhood alone
GREENWOOD, Ind (WISH) — A Center Grove toddler was found wandering around alone, wearing just a diaper and no shoes.
It happened Thursday around 11:00 am at the Brookhaven subdivision off of Olive Branch Road.
Police say she was walking around in 80 degree temperatures with no protection from the sun. She hadn’t eaten in 15 hours and her dad was at home sleeping, they believe.
If there was an award for best nanny, Kelsey Triwedi would be in the running.
“You can’t not love children. They’re so innocent and so sweet. I constantly worry about them getting hurt. I’m all over the place because they’re all over the place,” she said.
She takes care of four; a set a triplets and their big sister.
“I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to them. I would easily do anything for these kids,” Triwedi.
Which is why Kelsey was so appalled when she learned that, just down the street, police say a two year old girl was found wandering around; no diaper, no shoes and no parents.
“You’re going to let your child wander around in 90 degree weather with no clothes on? That’s ridiculous,” said Triwedi.
But perhaps most disturbing is how close she was to Paddock Road, a busy road that connects to the neighborhood.
“Being close to this road here, it would be so dangerous for them. They don’t understand,” said Triwedi.
The woman who found the girl told police that she waited 15 minutes for parents to come looking for their toddler before she called police. She said she held the girl so that her feet would not burn on the hot pavement.
According to police, it’s the second time this has happened. The father came looking for the baby after the first incident. But this time, police had to track him down. They say he was at home. The front door was opened, and the man appeared to be sleeping, police say.
“Honestly, that makes me want to cry. Because that’s ridiculous. I don’t even know what to say,” said Triwedi.
Police say the man did not even know how old his daughter was when they questioned him. They have not released his name because he was not arrested, however, they plan to turn the case over to the prosecutor’s office.
