30-year-old charged in shooting death of 23-year-old in North Vernon

NORTH VERNON, Ind. (WISH) — A 30-year-old Kentucky man is facing a murder charge in the shooting death of a 23-year-old in a Jennings County, Indiana, subdivision, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday afternoon. 

Donavon Booker, 23, was found shot in the upper torso about 7 p.m. Monday on Squire Lakes Boulevard in Country Squire Lakes, located northwest of North Vernon along State Road 7. Booker was taken to St. Vincent Jennings hospital where he later died. 

Stephon Moore, 30, of Louisville, Ky., faces a count of murder and two counts of attempted murder for his involvement and is currently being held in Louisville awaiting extradition, the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

The release said that Louisville Metro Police served a search warrant about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at an address in Louisville. The search resulted in the detention of three people, including Moore. A fourth person continued to be sought Tuesday afternoon for questioning. 

A jail booking photo of Moore was not immediately available from Louisville authorities. 

North Vernon is located about 45 miles southeast of Indianapolis.
