8-year-old leading peace march Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A peace march is set for Saturday in Indianapolis, and 8-year-old Reese Hamilton is set to lead the effort in hopes to help curb the violence in his neighborhood.

Reverend Charles Harrison tweeted the news on Monday.

Hamilton met with Mayor Joe Hogsett in September after he wrote a letter about the need to stop violence in the city. Mayor Hogsett and him discussed his goals.

Reese even got his first “official” city photo.

Hamilton plans to lead the Peace March Saturday at 9 a.m. at 30th Street and Gladstone on the east side. He hopes community leaders and other children tired of the violence will join him.

Hamilton told 24-Hour News 8 he has witnessed too much pain and doesn’t feel safe where he lives, which is why he wants to lead the march.

“I just wanted to stop the violence because I was so sad and it just didn’t feel right,” he said.
