9-year-old boy asks for selfless birthday wish
HATTIESBURG, Mississippi (WISH) – A 9-year-old boy in Mississippi is being recognized nationally for his thoughtful birthday wish.
According to CNN, Carson Atkins told his family and friends he didn’t want presents. They said instead, he asked them to donate money to the kids of two Hattiesburg police officers who were gunned down last month.
He collected nearly $1,000.
Members of the Lamar County Sheriff’s Department showed their appreciation by coming to his birthday party. They said they wanted to do something special.
Officers gave Carson badges and medals they earned, as a thanks for his donation.
“It made me feel good, because I knew that I was helping someone else,” Carson told CNN.
“It was a gift from a child to children, a very selfless gift, and we wish them all the luck and blessings and prayers,” Caron’s mother April Atkins said.
