INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis classroom is about to get a major upgrade thanks to IKEA and Teachers’ Treasures.

The two partnered up for the second year for the Classroom Refresh Contest.

Communities are given a chance to vote on which local teacher deserves a shopping spree for supplies at Teachers’ Treasures.

Andrea Wilburn, who teaches seventh grade nglish language arts at Students Understanding through Powerful & Energetic Routines School IPS Fredrick Douglass 19 won this year’s contest and was awarded a $1,000 gift card. She spoke about her plans to get fresh reading nooks in every seventh grade classroom giving students a calm place to learn.

Wilburn took home the win with the help of her friends and co-workers Ashley Hutchinson and Tanya Lundy campaigning and gathering support from social media. The team got more than 1,400 likes on Facebook and the win.

Wilburn said, “They have been through so much for the past two years and they are excited and want to be back in school.

“Just to make school as much like home as possible, to get them the academics that they need, it really just brings a tear to our eyes just to fulfill this wish.”
