Annual Geofest returns to the Indiana State Museum

GeoFest 2020 underway at Indiana State Museum

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indiana State Museum for the GeoFest is an annual gem, fossil and mineral show that features 22 vendors from across the country.

The event features many hands-on activities to do for kids and visitors of all ages. Multiple floors in the museum are dedicated to giving people a fun way to learn about ancient animals in their “Frozen Reign” or “Ancient Seas” exhibits.

The Frozen Reign experience gives visitors a chance to go on a tour guided by Ice Age zoo keepers who are given the task to show and tell people all about animals that existed thousands of years ago.

Program manager Megan Mance says she loves to see the shock on people’s faces when they see what the exhibit has to offer.

“The awe on people’s faces when they see how big a mammoth or a mastadon is,” Mance said. “What else is that big? I don’t know,” she laughed.

They also have interactive activities for the kids, including creating jewelry or pet rocks.

The GeoFest show runs Feb. 21-23. The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
