Downtown Silent Disco dance party to benefit Dress for Success Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH)– Dress for Success Indianapolis is inviting people downtown for the Silent Disco dance party that’s happening on Monument Circle this weekend.

The three-hour event, packed with local DJs, food trucks, beverage vendors and a light show, will help the organization raise funds to fuel its mission of getting women in the community back into the workforce.

This year, Dress for Success Indianapolis celebrates 22 years of helping women, not only through clothing, but with support programs and networks to help them seek and achieve employment.

Executive Director Julie Petr, says it’s a job that’s gotten harder for them since the impact of COVID-19. Petr said women are now facing new challenged in the workforce, like managing a work life while homeschooling kids and other obstacles that came along with the pandemic.

“90 percent of our clients in 2020 had either lost their job or had their hours reduced,” Petr said. “A huge percentage of women are leaving the workforce trying to make ends meet. [The goal] is to pull women out of poverty, we need to find them jobs that pay a living wage. That’s so key to what we’re trying to do.”

Petr also wants the Silent Disco party to bring more positive attention to the area and she’s partnering with Downtown Indy Inc.

“Our two main goals is to get critically needed funds and the other is to get people excited about downtown Indy,” she said.

The party is happening Saturday on the southwest quadrant of Monument Circle from 7:30 p.m. through 10:30 p.m. Click here to get tickets.
