Fire, police departments to face off for 2nd annual Carmel Winter Games

Carmel Winter Games

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — The Carmel Winter Games gives visitors a chance to be entertained and celebrate the winter season on the ice with family and friends in Hamilton County. The event has only been around a couple years, but people in the city have been buzzing about its return to the Ice at Center Green.

“We’ve been looking forward to this all year long,” said Dan McFeely with the City of Carmel Mayor’s Office.

McFeely says it’s a fun finale for families to enjoy the ice rink before their winter season events come to an end.

“This is the last weekend we skate before this ice rink goes away so we’re pulling off all the stops including our skates,” McFeely said.

The Carmel Winter Games includes games like human curling, trike races and more for people to come watch for free or sign up to participate in.

“We know it’s cold, but what are you going to do stay inside your whole life?” McFeely laughed. “Come on out and enjoy this thing. The most fun part is to see people get blasted on the ice,” McFeely said. “I like to see people have fun.”

The Hometown “Herolympics” event may be the most anticipated event for spectators. The Carmel Fire Department competes against the Carmel Police Department for a year’s worth of bragging rights.

“The curling is probably the most fun to watch, but I probably enjoy the trike race the most,” Carmel Fire Department’s Tim Griffin said.

Griffin said he enjoyed the race the most because of their “dominating” performance against the Carmel Police Department in the event. This year the police department released a video on Facebook showing the fire department how they are preparing for a different outcome in 2020. Click HERE to check it out.

Griffin says it’s all in fun but it’s also for a great cause; to feed the hungry with all the money going to help the Carmel United Methodist Food Pantry.

“We’re here to help the food pantry and people out there really need this and so if we can help that’s what we want to do,” Griffin said.
