Indianapolis man dominates 200-mile run for addiction awareness

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — In February, News 8’s “All Indiana” introduced you to William Dougherty, a man on a 200-mile mission in Indianapolis.

That mission was to raise addiction awareness in the circle city.

Dougherty, who battles with alcoholism, started his run for accountability looking to reach 100 miles. Once he got some momentum, he kicked the goal up to 200 miles and even with that he closed in on the finish line with four days to spare.

“On the last day I ran a marathon, 26.2 miles just to end it with a bang,” he said. Dougherty ended passing his goal by 38 miles.

“This is something that I didn’t know I’d be able to do until I actually tried to do it and I’m glad I did,” Dougherty said. “I want people to know that we do recover if we hold ourselves accountable.”

Dougherty will continue running through the rest of 2021 with a goal of hitting 2,000 miles.
