Indianapolis Zoo prepares to kick off 39th ‘ZooBoo’ celebration

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Zoo is preparing for one of its biggest events after being shut down for three months because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In its 39th season, the “ZooBoo,” the traditional Halloween traditional celebration at the zoo, will feature extended days and hours for families to enjoy and some new activities. WISH-TV is proud to be the official media sponsor for the annual event.

While active animals, a live DJ, costumes and trick-or-treating are returning for the 2020 celebration, there will be some new fun for families to enjoy.

Visitors can stop in at Pumpkin Town to be entertained and educated by Professor Pumpkin. The character performs science demonstrations for little wizards and witches at Pumpkin School. New Halloween decorations on display throughout the zoo grounds include a larger-than-life spider.

Also new, WISH-TV presents the “Trick-or-Treat Trail,” which includes four treat stations. For the first time, grownups can have their own adventure with the “Adult Trick-or-Treat Trail,” presented by Goose Island. The trail is open every Friday and Saturday, from 5-8 p.m. until Nov. 1.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the zoo will require guests to wear masks and will only be accepting online tickets.

The experience is free for Indianapolis Zoo members and comes with the regular price of admission.

ZooBoo event days and hours:

  • Wednesday Oct. 7th through Nov. 1.
  • Activities run Wednesday to Sunday.
  • Open until 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
