‘Wave parade’ created to cheer Zionsville residents ‘who miss their families’

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (WISH)– Zionsville Meadows, an assisted living facility, has been dealing with the daily challenges of keeping their residents safe from the dangers of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s a daily challenge,” said Sue Hamilton, the director of nursing. “They’re sad. They miss their families, but we’re trying to keep them upbeat.”

One family member of a resident wanted to show a resident that they were still thinking of them and wanted to get others involved. All of them decided to have a “wave parade” to help lift the spirits of the residents. Family members and others drove by, honked their horns and waved signs with encouraging words.

“It’s warming to their hearts, especially before Mother’s Day,” Hamilton said. “We had no problem getting our residents to come to the windows and be a part of it.”
