Windsor Village Park opens splash pad for kids

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Windsor Village Park is giving kids and their families more reasons to hang on to summer.

The park had a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of a new splash pad. As one of the Indy Parks that’s known as a staple on the east side of Indianapolis, organizers hope to draw thousands of children to enjoy some extra fun in the water before the summer weather ends.

Shawn Cowherd, the Windsor Village Park manager, took time right after the ribbon-cutting to welcome and invite neighbors to the new splash pad.

“It makes me feel absolutely wonderful that we’re able to be here and celebrate nature and fun,” he said. “We need you all to come on out and celebrate with us.”

Mary McBeath, the park’s assistant manager, is one of the people behind getting many of the attractions built for kids at Windsor Village Park. She says the mission to give kids a place to play holds sentimental value for her.

“I want everybody to come out here and experience Windsor Village Park,” McBeath said.

Windsor Village Park has also been helping its neighbors on the east side get through the COVID-19 pandemic, handing out free meals and house supplies during its weekly food drive. The park also gives away free meals to kids on a weekly basis. Go online to learn more about their efforts in the community.

The splash pad will be available this year for kids through Sept. 30.
