‘Art & Soul’ kicks off Black History Month events in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Black History Month kicked off Saturday in downtown Indianapolis with an event put on this afternoon by the Arts Council of Indianapolis.

Hundreds packed into the Artsgarden for the beginning of the annual celebration called “Art and Soul.”

Festivities include singing and dancing. Organizers say the event is much bigger than just a one-month celebration.

“Everybody coming here today is celebrating the kickoff of 365 days. Black History Month, February, is the beginning of the year for us who are 365 days black and 365 days artist,” said Ernest Disney-Britton, with Arts Council of Indianapolis.

“Art and Soul” will continue throughout the month with events that are free and open to the public.
