Avon man accused of recording women in restroom
AVON, Ind. (WISH) — A Hendricks County man who is facing preliminary charges of voyeurism has turned himself in.
Police reported that Justin Behnke, of Avon, had video files on his computer that were recorded from the restroom of his home in Avon. According to police, these videos depicted several women in varying states of undress inside the restroom of his house.
On Thursday, criminal charges were filed with the Hendricks County Prosecutor for two counts of voyeurism by means of a camera, which are level six felonies, and an arrest warrant was requested for Behnke.
Behnke turned himself in to the Hendricks County Jail just after noon on Friday. He posted a $2,500 cash bond and booked out just before 1 p.m.
During the investigation, Hendricks County Detectives said they found evidence of possible criminal activity in Martinsville.
According to police, Behnke worked at the Chili’s restaurant in Martinsville. The Martinsville Police Department said sources in Hendricks County told them that voyeurism by an electronic device may have happened in the women’s restroom at the restaurant.
“Our officers immediately secured the women’s restroom at the Chili’s here in Martinsville and determined there is no current threat to the general public,” Martinsville Police Chief Rick Lang said. “We understand the electronic devices belonging to the person of interest were turned over to the Indiana State Police for forensic examinations. The results of those examinations hopefully will reveal whether a crime actually occurred in our jurisdiction or not. This is an ongoing investigation and we are awaiting the results of the examinations to make that determination.”
On Friday afternoon, Chili’s referred to Behnke as a former employee and released this statement:
We are cooperating fully with the local authorities as they investigate this former employee. While we cannot comment while the investigation is pending, we assure you that the wellbeing of our guests and team members is our top priority, and that we will take any and all action necessary or appropriate upon conclusion of the investigation.”
