Avon Middle School South teacher, students use racial slur
AVON, Ind. (WISH) — An Avon Middle School South teacher is apologizing for using a racial slur in her classroom.
School officials confirm it happened Monday in a seventh-grade class. They tell us the teacher repeated the n-word in class after hearing students use in it the hallway.
The district also told News 8 that school leaders met with students and the teacher, and that the teacher apologized repeatedly.
A school official says the district also told students it was inappropriate for students to use the word in any context on school grounds.
Parents were sent emails and phone messages about the incident.
A school spokesperson says it is a personnel matter.
The school is southeast of U.S. 36 and Ind. 267.
