Ben Davis HS student found with gun, taken into custody

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 16-year-old Ben Davis High School student was taken into custody Wednesday for carrying a handgun into school, according to Wayne Township Schools.

The student was attending summer school at the Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center when administrators discovered he was carrying a handgun.

The gun was not loaded and was recovered without incident, according to school officials. The student was not identified.

Following school protocol, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers came to the school and took the student into custody.

The school says parents were informed of the incident in an automated  call Wednesday afternoon.

School continued as usual after the incident.
