Boy dies after being found in pool at family cookout

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A child died Saturday night after an apparent drowning at a family cookout, according to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department report.

Medics were sent to the 9400 block of Gemini Drive Saturday on reports that a child wasn’t breathing. Family members told police they were having a cookout when the child went into the backyard. Someone found him in the pool.

The five-year-old boy was rushed to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, where he later died.

IMPD is investigating the death.
