5 historic cars by engine maker Cummins will take lap at Indy 500

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Engine maker Cummins Inc. is celebrating 100 years, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is joining in on the fun.

Cummins has a long history in racing. The founder of the company was in the pit crew of the winning car of the first Indianapolis 500, and Cummins has been involved in the race since then.
On Wednesday, company leaders announced they are upping their presence at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Five historic race cars built by Cummins will take a lap at the Indianapolis 500.

Jennifer Rumsey, vice president and chief technical officer of Cummins, said, “This partnership with the Indianapolis 500 is celebrating our first 100 years and looking at the next 100 years in Indiana and across the world. We are marking this milestone by celebrating our history and sharing our focus on the future with our customers, our employees and people everywhere.”

The company’s history in racing will also be displayed at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum ahead of the Indianapolis 500, which will be May 26.
