Facebook hosts 2-day Indianapolis event for business owners

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — One of the biggest names in social media on the planet is helping small businesses in Central Indiana.

Facebook is in the city for a couple of days to teach small-business owners a thing or two about social media. It’s called the Facebook Indianapolis Community Boost event.

Representatives with the social media giant offered a free two-day series of classes for hundreds of business owners who signed up.

The event was designed to help those owners improve their social media skills. The hope is that will help them grow their businesses, too. The idea is to help small-business owners compete in a new economy.

Gov. Eric Holcomb said Thursday, “Facebook is learning from their customers as much as they are learning from Facebook. The lessons learned, being swapped, throughout the whole day will be invaluable to both.”

U.S. Rep. Andre Carson, an Indianapolis Democrat who was also at the event, said, “They can use Instagram, which is owned by Facebook; Facebook is there. It allows them, without having to look at peer reviews or take a long time to get a letter from someone, they can instantaneously get feedback on products, goods, and services.”

Facebook said Indianapolis is one of 50 cities that it will visit this year. The business also was offering training to community and nonprofit leaders.
