Caitlyn Jenner costume set to hit store shelves

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A national Halloween chain is defending its decision to sell a costume of someone who’s become a transgender role model.

Next month, Spirit Halloween will sell a Cailtyn Jenner costume based on her Vanity Fair cover. The stores recently opened in the Indianapolis area.

In a statement to WISH-TV, Spirit Halloween said:

At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based on celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes. Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and our Caitlyn-inspired costume reflects just that.”

Other Halloween sites are selling a similar type of costume. The outfit has caused some controversy.

A petition on change.org has demanded Spirit Halloween not sell the costume. The petition has more than 10,000 signatures.

The Spirit Halloween costume will cost $50, and include a corset and a wig. The company said it will be available by the end of September.

Thursday night on WISH-TV, hear from members of the transgender community about the costume.
