Camden man recovering after fall from tree stand

CAMDEN, Ind. (WLFI) — A Camden man is recovering after falling from a tree stand Saturday.

Just before 5:30 p.m., Indiana Conservation Officers were called to the 800 block of West 650 North in Carroll County for a man who had fallen from a ladder stand.

Officers say 77-year-old Larry Snapp was attempting to climb into his ladder stand when he fell approximately 17 feet. Snapp then slid an additional 20 to 30 feet downhill from the base of the stand.

He was able to crawl back to the base of his stand before attempting to signal for help by firing his rifle. The landowner heard the shots and found Snapp about two hours later.

Snapp was transported to Franciscan Hospital in Lafayette to be treated for a broken leg.

Officers say he was not wearing a safety harness and want to stress the importance of wearing one any time you are off the ground. DNR also recommends leaving a hunting plan with a point of contact that lists where you are hunting and when you plan to return.
