Cameras show suspect attaching skimmer to bank ATM

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Thieves working under a cloak of darkness are exposed for trying to get your credit card information.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), someone attached a skimming device to the ATM outside of the National Bank of Indianapolis. The bank’s cameras caught the images of someone placing the skimmer to the money machine.

After reviewing the surveillance video, detectives don’t believe there is enough evidence to identify the suspect, but the person’s face was heavily covered. 24-Hour News 8, reached out the bank for a statement and we were told no comment. It is unclear if any customers were victimized by the scheme.

Police in Indianapolis are also investigating a skimming device placed at a Marathon gas station on the 4000 block of East Southport Road. The gas station declined to comment. Detectives have not stated if there is a connection between the bank and the gas station.

Those that shop near the bank on 86th Street and Ditch Road are now more watchful after learning the skimming investigation.

“I will be very cautions and look to see any suspicious activity, and things that shouldn’t be in the card slots,” said Angel Stamper.

According to IMPD, consumers should look for companies that participate in anti-skimmer campaigns.

For instance, Ricker’s gas stations have placed alarms in their pumps. If anyone were to open the pumps employees would get an alert within seconds.

Bankrate.com, suggests that consumers check check balances regularly, use familiar ATMs, and check the card slots of the machines to make sure it is legitimate and that nothing has been tacked on.

If you have any information in these investigations you are urged to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS, or 262-8477.
