Car theft leads to 52-mile, 2.5-hour long pursuit

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (WANE) – A car theft led to an over 52-mile pursuit across three different counties.

A 2006 red Dodge Ram 3500 was reported stolen from Bart’s Car Store in Columbia City on August 31, according to a press release from Columbia City Police Department.

On September 2 at approximately 6:30 p.m. officers received a tip of a possible sighting of the stolen vehicle at Tractor Supply Co. in Columbia City.

Officers identified the vehicle and attempted to make contact. It was then that the vehicle fled.

Officers pursued the vehicle for a period of 2.5 hours. The suspect entered into several corn and soybean fields causing an unknown amount of damage, according to the press release.

Over eight law enforcement agencies were involved in the pursuit.

Stop sticks were deployed, finally bringing the vehicle to a stop in the area of State Road 105 and 700 South in Whitley County.

The suspect was taken into custody. The suspect’s name is being withheld until the investigation is complete.
