Cars trying to go around I-74 car fire get stuck in median
SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Shelby County Sheriff dispatchers said that part of Interstate 74 was shut down Friday morning and several drivers tried to get out of the long back up by going through the median.
Around 5:30 a.m., police closed the eastbound lanes of I-74 near the 108 mile marker.
Police said there was a vehicle on fire at that location that prompted the lane closure.
No one was injured, according to officials.
Police said they hoped to have lanes back open before 7:30 a.m. While lanes were closed vehicles who were stuck in the backup were attempting to go around the crash by going over the median. 24-Hour News 8’s crews at the scene saw a few of those vehicles get stuck.
Cars were backed up on I-74 from the 105 mile marker to at least the London Road Exit because of vehicles trying to get out of traffic going through the median.
