Chief Justice seeks more funding for Children’s Advocates

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Hundreds of CASA volunteers rallied at the Statehouse Monday.

They’re Court Appointed Special Advocates assigned to help abused and neglected children in court.

And now they want more funding in the state budget.

They are seeking a big hike from $2.7 million to $4.8 million and it’s the Chief Justice of the Indiana Supreme Court who’s leading the effort.

“We’re always looking for ways that kids that come in the court system are treated fairly and given hope for a better tomorrow,” said Chief Justice Loretta Rush, “because we know what they’re yesterday looked like.”

There has been no increase in CASA funding since 2007.

It is used to recruit, train and supervise volunteers.
