Children’s Museum unveils life-size bronze statues of athletes
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis on Tuesday morning unveiled the newest addition to the Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience: 12 life-size bronze statues.
The Avenue of Champions celebrates the legacy of 16 sports heroes with Indiana ties.
The bronze statues include Wayne Gretzky, Larry Bird, Oscar Robertson, Reggie Miller and Bobby “Slick” Leonard.
Former Indiana Fever star Tamika Catchings said at the unveiling, “This is awesome. You never could imagine yourself being in a statue, but I think it’s definitely fitting being at the Children’s Museum, and all the kids that will come through here. To be able to have this opportunity and be a part of this whole Legends experience, it’s great.”
Catchings said in a news release from Pacers Sports & Entertainment, where she works, that she visited the Sports Legends Experience with her family on Saturday. Her nephews played on all the different sports exhibits and Catchings even joined in on a few.
