Cicada named culprit behind Ohio car crash

CINCINNATI (WISH) — A cicada was the culprit behind a single-vehicle crash in Cincinnati on Monday.

According to the Cincinnati Police Department, the insect flew through an open window of a moving vehicle and struck the driver in the face, causing the driver to crash into a pole.

The pesky insect is one of millions that have emerged from the ground in order to breed the next generation.

The department posted photos of the crash on Twitter Monday night, accompanied with the hashtag message “#nothinggoodhappenswithcicadas”.

The noisy bugs are taking over several states, including Indiana. Scientists say the cicadas will only stick around for a few weeks. The next generation is not expected to reemerge again until 2038.
