Community Link: La Plaza

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Each week in Community Link, Carolene Mays-Medley and Marco Dominguez take a look at an organization or business that is making a positive impact on the community.

La Plaza is an organization dedicated to help those people in need among the Latino community in Indianapolis.

Miriam Acevdo-Davis, president and CEO of La Plaza, stopped by the WISH-TV studio to talk about what the organization does.

“We have two areas of focus,” said Acevdo-Davis. “One is education programs for Latino youth, to help them be successful in high school, go to college, persist in college, and go onto a career. Our second area of focus is access to health and social services for Latino families.”

However, the organization has made some changes recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re closed to the public, but we continue to provide services electronically and virtually,” said Acevdo-Davis.

Community Link also took a look at this year’s Latino Expo, which will be held entirely virtually.
