Congresswoman proposes naming post office for fallen soldier

ELKHART, Ind. (AP) – A northern Indiana congresswoman has proposed naming a post office in Elkhart after an Army soldier killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan in 2013.

U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski has introduced legislation in Congress to rename the building in honor of Army Staff Sgt. Jesse Williams of Elkhart. Williams and five other soldiers died when a Black Hawk UH-60 helicopter went down during a mission in Zabul province.

Williams was deployed three times, once to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan.

Walorski says renaming the post office would leave a lasting memory of his courage and bravery. Last year, the Indiana Republican awarded the Purple Heart award posthumously to Williams’ mother, Debbie Passerallo, at a ceremony in Elkhart.
