CDC Advisory Committee to meet Tuesday, to consider Pfizer vaccine for children

LATEST: CDC advisers vote to recommend giving COVID-19 vaccine to ages 5-11

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The CDC Advisory Committee will meet to consider the use of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine in children as young as 5 years old.

The White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Jeffrey Zients said that 15 million child-sized doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine are already being moved from the company’s freezers and facilities to distribution centers across the U.S.

Parents will be able to schedule appointments as the number of sites are increasing throughout the month and more places open their doors to administer the vaccine.

“We are planning on some vaccinations this week before kids age 5 to 11 really hit full strength in the week of November 8th,” Zients said.

The kids’ version is reformulated at 1/3 the dose. It is also repackaged with a new orange top, so it will be difficult to mix up with the adult vaccine.

The Biden administration has secured enough vaccine supply to vaccinate the 28 million children ages 5 to 11 who are eligible.
