Indy pharmacy, clinic prepares to administer COVID-19 shot to children

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Centers for Disease Control director gave the green light to administer the Pfizer vaccine for children aged 5 to 11.

Dr. Aziz, a local pharmacy and clinic in Indianapolis, is expected to get around 400 doses. 

Kurt Moyer, the vice president of Clinical Services at the clinic and pharmacy, told News 8 this is a good rollout number because it’s unclear how many parents will sign their children up. 

The vaccine is similar to the one those 12 and older can receive. 

“This is a two-shot series that is 21 days apart. Just like the adults have,” said Moyer. 

The major difference between the two vaccines is that the vaccine for those 12 and up needs to be stored in an ultra freezer. Moyer explained the children’s vaccine can be in a regular refrigerator. He, also, said the dosage is a third of the adult dose. 

Dr. Aziz is a walk-in clinic, but the staff suggested making appointments for the vaccine.
