Crews respond to English Avenue double residence fire
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Emergency crews responded to a call of a double residence fire.
The first unit arrived on scene, in the 1500 block of English Avenue, just before 3 a.m. Saturday morning.
According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, residents were awakened by their dog, Jake, who was barking. As they exited their house, they saw a large blaze on the porch of the home next door.
The fire quickly spread, doing extensive damage to the first house. It soon spread to their house.
The couple quickly located their neighbor, who was asleep in his truck. He didn’t know the front of his house was on fire.
According to IFD, firefighters were able to put of the fire on the second relatively quickly. However, due to excessive clutter in the first house, getting inside the house to fight the fire was difficult.
A total of 15 IFD units responded to the scene.
Crews were finally able to get the fire under control just before six a.m.
There were no injuries as all residents were able to escaped unharmed. Also, Jake, a poodle, was accounted for.
One of the house has been estimated at a total loss with damages at $85,000.
The second house has suffered damages estimated at $30,000.
