Crime Stoppers hosts shredding day throughout Indianapolis

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana is hosting an event for residents to safely dispose of their documents.

The event is called Community Shred-IT and Electronics Recycling Day and there are five different locations around Indianapolis residents can bring their documents.

Respresentatives with Crime Stoppers said the event isn’t just about regular recycling. They want to make it a point to help you get rid of your important documents properly–keeping them out of the wrong hands.

Daniel Rosenberg, Director of Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana said it’s easy to forget how important shredding those documents can be.

“We’ve got addresses, we’ve got social security numbers, we got family members’ information so it’s really really important that we dispose of those types of documents properly,” said Rosenberg. “If theives get ahold of them they can not only damage us but our loved ones.”

Shred day goes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

If you plan on shredding a box there is a $5 donation fee and if you want to get rid of a television or a computer they’re asking for $10.

A pharmaceutical drug take back service is also available at the five different locations.

All of the money donated goes into helping Crimestoppers continue to work with the community and get criminals off the street.

Five central Indiana locations include:

  • Indianapolis – 1000 N. Meridian St.
  • Carmel/Boone County – Creekside Middle School 3525 W. 126th St.
  • Lawrence/Indy East – Lawrence Police Department
