1 dead in shooting at apartments on northwest side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 33-year-old man has died after being shot multiple times Monday night on the city’s northwest side.

The victim has since been identified as Cornelius Dent.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was called shortly before 10:15 p.m. to the 5400 block of Falcon Creek Way at the Falcon Creek Place Apartments. That’s north of Moller and West Pike Plaza roads.

Dent was found on a sidewalk outside an apartment building and next to the parking lot.

At the scene, IMPD Capt. Harold Turner said the man likely was targeted and the shooting was not random.

Turner said two people of interest were seen near the area in the time leading up to the shooting. They left the area in two separate cars, police believe, and headed toward Moller Road.

Dent was believed to be visiting the apartments, police said.

No additional information was immediately available from police.

Police asked anyone with information, such as the models or colors of the cars or their license plates, to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana. The phone is 317-262-8477.
