Arrest made after Southport HS student shot, killed at southeast side gas station

UPDATE: IMPD says a 22-year-old suspect has been arrested. His name has not been released.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man is dead after a shooting at a gas station on the city’s southeast side Monday evening, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.

Just after 8 p.m., an IMPD officer was patrolling the area when she heard gunshots in the 3600 block of South Keystone Avenue.

Upon arrival at the gas station, the officer found a man with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a local hospital where they were later pronounced dead.

Police said that they found two small children in a vehicle at the scene, neither of whom were injured.

According to IMPD Public Information Officer William Young, a person of interest is in custody, and police believe there is no immediate threat to the public.

Young said this is Indy’s 233 homicide so far this year.

Perry Township Schools has said the victim was a Southport High School student. Counseling services will be offered to students and staff.
