51-year-old woman shot, killed on southwest side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 51-year-old woman died after a shooting Thursday morning on the city’s southwest side, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Police were called just before 6:45 a.m. Thursday to the 2900 block of South Taft Avenue. That’s north of West Troy Avenue between South Lynhurst Drive and the intersection of Holt Road and Kentucky Avenue.

Thelma Gerholdt died of a gunshot, according to an IMPD list of 2020 homicides released Friday.

After arriving on the scene, officers found Gerholdt lying in the backyard and shot.

Gerholdt was originally taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. However, police later confirmed that the woman had died.

The case remained unsolved on Friday. Anyone with information on the fatal shooting is asked to contact IMPD at 317-327-3475.
