17-year-old faces gun charges after 15-year-old shot in Greenfield

GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on gun-related charges in connection to the shooting of a 15-year-old boy on Thursday morning, Greenfield police said Friday afternoon.

Greenfield Police Department has said the shooting happened just before 6:50 a.m. Thursday in the 800 block of North Noble Street. That’s in a residential neighborhood about a block east of Greenfield-Central High School.

Several children were in a house on Noble Street, and at least one of them had a gun, police said in a news release issued Friday afternoon. “A juvenile inside the residence fired a handgun that struck the victim,” the release said. “Other criminal charges are expected as this investigation continues.”

“Their names will not be released due to being juveniles,” said Charles McMichael, deputy chief of Greenfield police, in an email to News 8.

Police say the 15-year-old boy was taken to an Indianapolis hospital where he was described as stable.

Investigators do not believe there is a threat to the public.

Officers requested homeowners in the area check camera systems for any suspicious activity that happened in the area around the time of the shooting.
