19-year-old jailed on charges of murder, rape in Bartholomew County woman’s death

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 19-year-old man is preliminarily charged with murder, rape and auto theft after a woman was found dead Monday afternoon in her Bartholomew County home.

Bobby Niel Truitt II was put on a 48-hour hold in the Bartholomew County jail in Columbus, said a spokeswoman for the county sheriff’s office on Tuesday night.

Deputies with the sheriff’s office were called to the 2700 block of South East Street around 6:28 a.m. Monday on “a possible code,” the sheriff’s office said in a Monday afternoon release.

On Tuesday morning, Truitt was identified by county authorities as a person of interest in the death of the woman found in her Waynesville home. Truitt is believed to be the last person to see the woman alive, authorities said.

No additional information about the identity of the woman, the nature of the scene, or the circumstances of the death have been released.
