2 arrested after 1 killed, 1 injured in Bloomington shooting

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – One person is dead and a second person is injured following a Thursday evening shooting in Bloomington.

According to the Bloomington Police Department, officers were called to an apartment complex in the 2000 block of North Walnut Street for reports of shots fired at approximately 9:15 p.m.

After arriving on scene, officers located two victims inside an apartment. One person,21-year-old Skylar Maupin, police say, was shot several times in the upper torso. The other victim had been shot in the shoulder.

Both were taken to IU Health Bloomington for treatment for their injuries. However, Maupin later died at the hospital, according to police.

The surviving victim, who is said to be in stable condition, provided officers with suspect information. As a result of that information, a Morgan County deputy apprehened two suspects in Martinsville.

Police believe the suspects traveled to Bloomington in order to purchase marijuana but instead robbed the victims. It was at that point a physical altercation occured, with one of the suspects firing multiple shots in the apartment as they both ran outside, according to police.

Police then say the other suspect began firing shots into the front window of the apartment.

Those suspects, who have been identified as Jamarius Turnage and Cleodis Collins, have been transported to the Monroe County Jail.
