2 HSE staff members found dead in Fishers home after report of shots fired

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) — Two longtime staff members of Hamilton Southeastern school district, a man and a woman, were found dead Wednesday night after police responded to a report of possible shots fired, police and a school spokeswoman said.

Authorities went shortly before 6 p.m. to check out the report at a house and found the man and woman dead inside. The house is in the 13000 block of Dorster Street in the Saxony mixed-use development. That’s southwest of Olio Road and East 131st Street.

Police said construction workers heard the shots around 6 p.m. and called police. When police arrived, the workers pointed officers to a red house across the street from where they were working.

Sgt. Tom Weger, the spokesman for Fishers Police Department, said no one is actively being sought and there is not believed to be a threat to the public. Police said no one else was in the home. Police are not calling this a murder-suicide at this time. Investigators would not give many other details. The names of the victims have not been released.

“The investigation is very fresh,” Weger told News 8.

Emily Pace Abbotts, the director of school and community relations for the HSE district, issued this statement:

“It is with great sadness that we have learned of the sudden passing of two longtime staff members during an incident Wednesday evening. Fishers Police Department is leading the investigation, and we will be supporting them in their efforts. We are currently working through our district’s Crisis Response Team, which includes mental health professionals, to provide much-needed support during this difficult time.”

Classes have been canceled Thursday at Hoosier Road Elementary and Fall Creek Intermediate schools, she said.

The school district also sent the statement to parents along with other information. The district plans to have school counselors and mental health therapists available Thursday for students and staff members. Also, parents were told that students who need to talk with someone immediately can call LookUp Crisis Hotline at 800-284-8439.

Neighbors said two teachers in the Hamilton Southeastern school district own the home where the bodies were found. One neighbor said the husband who lives at the house recently talked about downsizing and selling everything he owned.

Area resident Michael Jansen said, “I never met the wife. The father was really nice. He sat outside. He was playing jokes. He spoke about his children. He seemed like a great guy.”

An autopsy will come from the Hamilton County coroner possibly on Thursday.
